Of the other tributary canyons, the first after the Zion-Mt Carmel tunnel on the north side of Pine Creek (known as Shelf Canyon) has a very short but dark and narrow section that is worth visiting, while the canyon on the south side closest to Keyhole is not so interesting as it gains height quickly with several high dryfalls, eventually affording great views of the distant slickrock surroundings but with no narrow passages.

Pine Creek is a technical slot canyon that is not only spectacular, but it has an easy off the highway entrance and a fairly easy exit. These two factors make it a popular slot canyon even though the actual slot is just as difficult as many of Zion slot canyons. Pine Creek flows through a long straight canyon in the southeast section of Zion National Park towards UT 9, the Zion-Mt Carmel highway, where it is joined by Clear Creek, an even longer tributary that runs alongside the road eastwards through a fantastic red and white landscape of sheer cliffs and huge domed rocks. Pine Creek is Zion’s most popular canyon for misadventure.
